Within the Victorian bushland and just a 3 hour drive from the north of Melbourne, very close to the Murray River a pastoral region which is famous in its own special way is where the Echuca Racecourse can be found. It is an 805 meter sand horse track. Historically, special trains were used to ferry racing enthusiasts coming from other regional towns to the racecourse.
The track is known for its very friendly atmosphere. Features of the track include a circumference of 1811m. For most of the lap the width of the track reaches 18m, but when it reaches the 350m home straight the width reaches 33m. Every horse that takes part in the race gets equal opportunity to win. One of the key features of this course is the surface which is sand and very well irrigated which can accommodate racing events any time of the year. All races are run in a counterclockwise direction. The normal race length is either 1725m or 1770m.
The track is under the management of the Echuca Racing Club. The club operates eleven TAB racing events annually, one of which is the Echuca Cup - a 1400m run held during the weekend of Labor Day. The Echuca Race course holds a 2 day Echuca Cup carnival on a Saturday and Sunday in March. The Cup actually holds the top position of all 11 events that the club hosts every year.
Most people enjoy going to Echuca Racecourse because of great thoroughbred racing, plus the Echuca Cup attracts spectators and punters from all around the place to witness great racing events.
