The course circumference of the Hawkesbury Racecourse is 2067.5m with a home straight of 282m in length and 20m wide throughout. It also includes a long chute of 650m that joins the straight and is normally where races commence, particularly the ones from the 1400m to 2000m. The track is composed of a kikuyu grass surface, a sandy loam base and great sub soil drainage. The track is considered one of the most durable track surfaces.
The racecourse is located at the gateway of the Blue mountains, about an hour's drive from the center of Sydney. It is not only known for the major hose racing events that are held on it but it is also known for its facilities which can hold different functions and events, such as parties, weddings, receptions and conference meetings. The place is spectacularly located as it is set among well appointed and well groomed surroundings.
Hawkesbury Racecourse is under the management of the Hawkesbury Race Club. Other than the track itself, the club also offers a 4 star motel that includes 30 dazzling appointed rooms, 2 deluxe suites, 2 suites that include a converted spa, accommodation for the disabled, an in-ground pool and parking facilities.
The club hosts about 2 race meetings every month. This means that each year there are approximately 24 race events that are held at the Hawkesbury Racecourse. Considered, one of the biggest race days of the year, the Hawkesbury Gold Cup is held in November. Then there are the Listed Yalumba Wines Cup, the Hawkesbury Gold Cup Open Handicup race and the Group 1 Crown Oaks. These races normally get the attention of either the local quality runners or horses all around the country.
