About 300 kilometres south of Sydney, or approximately a 3 hour drive, and about 180 kilometres or a 2 hour drive east of Canberra, lies the Mouya Racecourse. It is located on Donnelly Drive at the North Head of Moruya. It is also located opposite the Moruya Airport which makes transportation easy due to daily flights to Sydney and Melbourne.
The track is under the management of the Moruya Jockey Club which holds about 8 meetings annually. Some of the events that the Club hosts include the Narooma and Moruya Cup, which are both held in January and the Winter Cup and the South Coast Classic, every July.
The Narooma Cup, which occurs on the first monday in January, is considered by locals and even avid horse racing fans as the biggest meeting of the year. It is said to typify a country race event at its very best.
Even though the Moruya Racecourse is only a small race track compared to other tracks in New South Wales, it doesn't mean that they don't have quality thoroughbred racing action. In fact they are known as the 'Center of South Coast Racing' and they make sure that they keep that title intact!
It is also one of the newer tracks in the area as it was established in 1985. The track is an all weather surface on a sand base plus it has a bore watering system which is gentle on the horses' legs. The track has a 1760m circumference and a straight of 400m. The Club also allows small marquees to be set up for group functions. Plus there are TAB and Bookmakers on course available for all meetings.
