Mungery is a village that is located about 199 miles north of Canberra and about 81 miles North West of Orange.
One of the things that people of this small village are proud off is their high quality thoroughbred racing events. The Mungery Racecourse is located on the banks of the Bogan River, about 40 kilometres south west of Narromine.
This track is actually one of the few remaining dirt tracks on the New South Wales picnics racing scene. With picturesque surroundings, it will capture the heart of racing entusiasts who visit the area.
Under the direction of the Mungery Amateur Picnic Race Club, the club conducts 5 race meetings every year. The Darling Irrigation Mungery Picnic Cup is the feature event of the main race day.
Other entertainment that the club holds are fashions on the field, which is a must see event as always. Categories for this event are the Most Elegant Lady, Best Dressed Gentleman, Dynamic Duo and the Fashionable Filly. Then there is The Miss Mungery, Live Auction and the Mungery Dash for Cash with a generous $250 prize bounty.
There is also an enclosed place for the Children's Activity Centre that will keep the children entertained while the adults are busy watching the racing action. This facility includes jumping castles, a sand pit, cubby house and some arts and crafts activities.
During Race Day, the club offers facilities such as a full bar offering champagne, wine and beer, a catering van, nibbles, a full TAB van for metro races and multiple onsite bookies. All these facilities are open for both club members and the general public.
