It is considered the largest provincial racecourse that can be found in New South Wales. Newcastle, also referred to as 'The Broadmeadow' is located in the suburb of Broadmeadows in NSW. The races here are mostly flat racing. A grass surface with measurements of 2000m for the track circumference and 415m for the final straight with a perfect oval shape, the track is provides a truly beautiful view. Newcastle Racecourse also offers other great facilities such as the 8 different kinds of function rooms that can cater to every need of members and the public, the multiple bars plus the clear view of the track in the marquees. It is a great experience for race goers. Plus it is also known to be a great location for other events such as weddings and receptions.
Newcastle racecourse is operated by the Newcastle Jockey Club. The club was formed in 1901. From then on they have been considered as one of the most refined and leading racing clubs in the thoroughbred racing scene, in Australia.
With the Newcastle Jockey Club operating the track, there are 26 Saturday meetings every year plus a few carnivals during the season of autumn and spring with the club's 'Sunday Westpac Rescue Helicopter Raceday' held in November.
Moreover the biggest and most famous of them all is the ever popular Boxing Day Races. This is considered the biggest event on the racecourse calendar. This day attracts an estimated 16,000 people in attendance with great live entertainment and a great race program, it is a great celebration for the district.
The Newcastle Newmarket Handicap, Cameron Handicap and the Newcastle Gold Cup are the other major races that are being held here every year.
