Some say that if you do want to watch the best horse racing action in New South Wales then you should hed to the Wyong Racecourse. Popular with jockeys and trainers because of its 250m long chute that leads onto the circuit, it has an unusual shape because of a long straight run at the chute of 1,350 m. The greyhound track is surrounded by a 1791m circumference and a 275m home straight. All races here are run in a clockwise direction and heavy loam is the racecourse surface. It also has a 3 level air-conditioned grandstand for members, a grandstand for the public spectators and a betting ring that is undercover.
The racecourse which been there since 1875 is located on the central coast of the New South Wales, which is just an hour north from the Central Business District of Sydney. It is also just a couple of minutes away from the scenic beaches which is a major attaction and opposite the Wyong Railway station which makes it easily accessible to the public.
Wyong Racecourse is under the management of the Wyong Race Club. The club hosts about 20 race meetings annually from April to November which include all the feature and major events. One of which is the Wyong Gold Cup which is part of the two day Wyong Gold Cup Carnival. In this event, thousands of viewers flood the course to witness the event first hand and to take part in some of the action such as the Wyong Fashion contest during Ladies day.
The Wyong Racecourse is very popular plus it is considered by lots of jockeys and trainers around NSW to be the safest racecourse in New South Wales.
