High Noon Approaching For Ecuador

Gai Waterhouse will be hoping to have unearthed another cups contender in Ecuador. The 4yo gelding by High Chaparral produced what appeared to be a display of sustained speed in winning a Bm 75 event at Rosehill on 14th September, 2013 by 3.0 lengths. Of course, it is a big step from Bm 75 winner to 'cups contender', but that's what dreams are made of and the High Chaparral blood lines have past form in the shape of Descarado (won the Caulfield Cup in 2010, also trained by Gai) and So You Think (3rd in the 2010 Melbourne Cup).

Waterhouse Supplements Tres Blue into Melbourne Cup

Gai Waterhouse has won a host of top Australian races but the big one, the Emirates Melbourne Cup, has always eluded her grasp.

The popular handler now has a total of 12 horses entered for the November 'race that stops a nation', having stumped up $5500 to add new arrival, Tres Blue, to the field for the hugely valuable two-mile Flemington handicap.

Welcome Back Darling!

Race caller Greg Miles gave a glimpse of his passion for horse racing and put into words what many would have been feeling, during the winning return of Atlantic Jewel at Caulfield on Saturday 31st August, 2013. Coming back from an injury resulting in a spell of 490 days, punters could be forgiven for letting the unbeaten 5yo mare by Fastnet Rock drift from $1.80 to a starting price of $2.20. Another previously unbeaten pint sized 'darling' by the name Miracles Of Life also resumed from a spell, but Greg Miles could not get her across the line to remain unbeaten.

'Thy' Kingdom Come?

The Peter Moody trained Thy resumed at Caulfield on Saturday 17 August, 2013 and was certainly not expected to figure in the finish of the race, with a starting price of $21.00 (top fluctuation $31.00). She ended up coming from well back over the unsuitable 1200m trip, to win running away by a length. Puissance De Lune also resumed at the same race meeting and with some major spring targets in mind, has dominated post-race analysis and media coverage. We add something 'more….' to the Puissance De Lune analysis, at the end of this article.

Shamexpress Returns Home to Prepare for Spring Campaign

Such has been the tremendous record of Australian sprinters on their many forays to Britain in recent years that it came as something of a surprise when a raider from 'Down Under' failed to cut any ice this time around.

Havana Rey, What Happened?

Havana Rey ran as a heavily backed $1.90 favorite over 1600m at Warwick Farm on 26/1/13. Unfortunately for his supporters the result was a last placing beaten 19.5 lengths.

Roll forward to his next start, also over 1600m at Warwick Farm on 9/2/13 and if you could make the leap of faith to 'stick firm', the reward was a first placing with the handsome dividend of $8.00.

What could possibly explain such a turn of events?
